India's biggest mobile operator Bharti Airtel formed a joint venture with public sector fertiliser maker IFFCO to provide telecom products and services to farmers in rural areas. In my opinion, Bharti Airtel has created a platform to provide free daily voice updates on mandi prices, farming techniques, weather forecast and fertiliser availability. I have no doubt in my mind that Airtel will become the top rural telecom brand in 2-3 years and the joint venture will harness the power of telecom to add value to the farm sector.
