State-run heavy electrical equipments maker Bharat Electronics , a technology driven multi-product, multi-unit company announced a substantial rise in standalone net profit for the quarter ended March 2008, helped by better operating efficiency together with strong revenue growth. During the quarter, Net profit of the company rose by 41.36% to Rs 504.83 crores from Rs 357.12 crores in the same quarter previous year while Gross profit of the company increases from Rs 542.25 crores to Rs 750.76 crores in Jan-March, 2008 quarter. The company reported earnings of Rs 63.10 a share during the quarter, registering 41.35% growth over prior year period. Net sales for the quarter climbed 32.27% to Rs 2293.74 crores as against Rs 1734.17 crores in the same quarter last year, while Total Income has increased by 30.94% from Rs 1791.60 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2007 to Rs 2345.94 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2008.Total Expenses of the company in Jan-March, 2008 quarter are Rs 1595.18 crores as against Rs 1249.35 crores in quarter ended March 31, 2007. As Far as Yearly results are concerned  Company has posted a 6.79 % rise in its net profit to Rs 766.95 crore for the year ended March 31, 2008 as compared to Rs 718.16 crore for the year ended March 31, 2007. Net Sales of the company rose 4.54% to Rs 4069.28 crore in year ending 2007-2008 compared to Rs 3892.46 crore in the year ending 2006-2007. Total Income has increased from Rs 4088.81 crore for the year ended March 31, 2007 to Rs 4299.56 crore for the year ended March 31, 2008. On a consolidated basis along with its three subsidiaries, Net profit of the company increased from Rs 731.55 crores to Rs 777.2 crore while Total income of the company increased to Rs 4,452.34 crore from Rs 4,246.33 crore.

Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) established in 1954 by the Government of India in order to to meet the specific electronic needs of the Indian defence services, with its corporate office at Bangalore, has nine units in the country located at Chennai, Hyderabad, Machilipatnam, Pune,  Taloja , Panchkula, Ghaziabad and Kotdwara. This enhanced status will provide BEL certain operational autonomy in the areas of capital investment, establishment of Joint Ventures etc. BEL has also been awarded a Satellite Network tender by Andhra Pradesh Beverages Corporation Limited (APBCL).  In June 2007, BEL was conferred the prestigious Navratna status based on its consistent performance. BEL looks forward to leverage the increased functional autonomy for further business growth and diversification.Recently BEL and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd, Haifa, Israel, which is known in the international defense community for its missile systems decided for a joint venture which will encourage indigenous advanced technology capabilities of missile electronics and guidance technologies within India and will enable Rafael to meet offset requirements by transferring valuable technologies . This Joint venture helps BEL to expand its range to meet the growing demand of missile electronics.
